Matanhail: the tehsil town
Matanhail was founded by the Suhag (Sihag) Jat clan. Today it is the tehsil and block headquarters, with a government college, ITI, Kendriya Vidyalaya (2017), grain market and Vita milk plant. In 2026 the state approved a National Military School for Matanhail, with the panchayat proposing 61 acres.
Sepoy Amit (2 Jat) of Mundsa village in Matanhail tehsil was killed by an avalanche in the Tangdhar sector, Kupwara, on 3 December 2019. Jhajjar district also lost many of its sons in the Kargil war.
