Subedar Sujjan Singh Yadav, Ashoka Chakra (posthumous): born in Kanina Khas on 30 March 1953, Subedar Sujjan Singh (13 Kumaon) was killed on 26 September 1994 in Kupwara, J&K, while leading a search party against militants. He received the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award, and his bravery is remembered in his hometown every 26 September.
Naik Ram Kumar, Vir Chakra: Naik Ram Kumar (4 Kumaon) of Kanina Khas was killed on 7 August 1965 in the Indo-Pak war, Tithwal sector.
