Charkhi Dadri: history, tribute to soldiers and land of wrestlers
The name: 'Dadri' is linked to the old Dadur lake, and 'Charkhi' was added after independence to honour Charkhi village, which took part in the 1857 uprising and the Praja Mandal movement against Jind State. Charkhi Dadri became a district in 2016.
War memorial: the town's Rose Garden has a war memorial site where veterans pay tribute every Kargil Vijay Diwas; soldiers from many Dadri-area villages have given their lives for the country, from Kargil to the present day.
Land of wrestlers: the Phogat sisters, Geeta, Babita and Vinesh, from Balali village in Charkhi Dadri district, have made the country proud. The yearly fair at Baba Shami Dayal's samadhi and Shyamesar lake are also part of the town's identity.
