Jagran
How to Organise a Mata ka Jagran: Tent, Stage, Darbar Decoration and Lighting

A village Mata ka Jagran is an all-night act of devotion: hundreds of people sit together, bhajans go on through the night, and prasad or a bhandara follows in the morning. Jagran planning means the tent, stage, darbar decoration, lighting and seating need to be ready well in advance. Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra has arranged jagrans and religious events in villages since 1995. We bring all the goods, set them up in your courtyard, street or near the temple, and take everything back after the jagran. Here is the complete checklist, from the tent house's point of view.
1. Space and tent
Whether the jagran is in the courtyard, street, chaupal or open ground near the temple, this is what we set up:
- A large tent or pandal for the sangat, with kanat (side walls)
- A waterproof tent against night dew or unseasonal rain
- Durries and carpets for floor seating
WhatsApp us a photo of the space and we'll size the tent to the expected sangat.
2. Stage and Mata's darbar
The darbar is the heart of the jagran, so this is where we put the most attention:
- A raised, sturdy stage for the bhajan mandali
- A beautiful backdrop and drapes behind the darbar
- Flower decoration: fresh or artificial, to suit your budget
- Special lighting on the darbar so the sangat sitting at the back can see it clearly
3. Lighting and generator
A jagran runs all night, so lighting matters most. For this we put up:
- Full lighting inside the pandal, with focus lights on the stage and darbar
- Jhalar and LED lights on the house, street and approach (light decoration)
- Generator backup so bhajans and lights don't stop in a power cut
4. Comfort for the sangat
- We set up separate chairs or durries for elders and women
- Fix a spot for drinking water in advance
- A sound system is available from us on demand; you fix the bhajan mandali date early
- For a summer jagran, we can put coolers in the pandal too
5. Bhandara and prasad
A jagran is often followed by prasad or a bhandara. For this we send a halwai who cooks at your place with the bhatti and large utensils, and we lay durries for the pangat. Taking the tent and halwai from us together makes coordination easier. See our bhandara guide for the full checklist.
6. Date and booking
Jagrans are most common during Navratri and festivals, when items get booked fast. Tell us as soon as the date is fixed and we'll book the tent, lights and decoration in your name, done for the amount you tell us. Before booking, you can visit Khorra to see the darbar decoration and stage items (please call 99918 64283 before coming).
