Summer Wedding: If Your Wedding Is in May–June Heat, How Do You Keep the Tent Cool?

If your wedding falls in the May–June heat, the biggest worry is keeping guests comfortable. Haryana summers get very hot by day and humid at night. The good news: with the right tent, coolers and good timing, a summer wedding can go smoothly. We at Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra provide coolers on rent with the tent in summer, and we bring and set up everything at your home. Here's the full preparation, from the tent wala's point of view.
How do you keep the tent cool in summer?
For a summer wedding we set up the tent so that air keeps moving inside:
- We place coolers in the pandal, especially near the stage, dining area and elders' seating
- We keep the tent airy: for daytime functions we put up an open shamiyana, with kanat only where the sun comes in directly
- We set up the pandal in a shaded spot, near trees in the courtyard or street if there are any
- We lay light durries to reduce heat from the ground
More on pandals and shamiyanas: wedding tent and pandal.
Where should coolers go?
When we set up the tent, we place coolers here:
- Near the stage, for the couple and photos
- The dining area, where crowds gather
- Elders' and children's seating
- Airflow near the halwai to offset the heat of the bhatti
How many coolers you need depends on pandal size and guests. WhatsApp a photo of the space and we'll advise. If you like, visit us in Khorra to see our goods and pandal and stage designs yourself.
Coolers need power: keep a generator
Power cuts are common in summer, and without coolers guests suffer in the humidity. So we bring a generator along with the tent and coolers. When booking, tell us that coolers, lights and DJ will all run, so we bring a generator of the right capacity. We also put up the jhalar and LED lights for the evening. See: light decoration and generator.
Time the programme right
- Avoid outdoor programmes in the afternoon sun
- Hold the baraat and dinner after sunset
- Keep the ghudchadhi and baraat route short
Tell us your timings in advance and we will have the tent, stage and lights ready before the afternoon sun or by evening. DJ and sound for the ghudchadhi and nikasi are available on demand.
Water and cool drinks
- Cold water stations around the venue
- Shikanji, lassi and jaljeera on the menu
- Our halwai cooks prepare the food at your home, and you choose the menu
We set up the food counters in the shade and near the coolers, and bring bone china crockery too. See: halwai and catering.
Watch for dust storms
Summer can bring sudden dust storms. That is why we tie the pandal down firmly. If bad weather is forecast, tell us early and we will arrange a waterproof tent and extra tying accordingly. For unseasonal rain, see our rain-at-the-wedding guide.
Complete summer wedding setup, for the amount you tell us
Tent, coolers, lights, generator, halwai and crockery: we bring it all in our own vehicle, set it up at your home and take it back after the function. Tell us your budget and we will do the job to your satisfaction for that amount. For the rate, call or WhatsApp: 99918 64283.
