DJ and Sound System for a Function: Speakers, Mics, Mixer, DJ and Announcement System, What Each Function Needs, Where Speakers Go and the 10 pm Rule (DJ Sound Kiraye Par)

Sound at a function does two separate jobs: getting words to everyone (the pandit's mantras, a katha, speeches, announcements) and setting the mood (songs, dancing, the DJ). The items and the way speakers are placed differ for each. A katha doesn't need a booming DJ, and one mic isn't enough for a sangeet night. This guide covers what each function needs and where the speakers go. Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra supplies speakers, mics, mixers and announcement systems, and a DJ on demand.
1. What a sound setup includes
| Item | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Speakers | Carrying songs and voices across the pandal |
| Mics | For the pandit, anchor, speeches, a bhajan group or singer |
| Mixer | Handling several mics and music at once |
| DJ (on demand) | Dancing at the sangeet, haldi-mehndi and baraat |
| Announcement system | Announcements across a big ground, mela or public meeting |
| DJ gaadi | A DJ on a vehicle moving with the ghudchadhi-nikasi |
2. What each function needs
- Sangeet, haldi-mehndi night: a DJ, speakers by the dance floor, and a mic for talking between songs; more in haldi, mehndi and sangeet
- Ghudchadhi and nikasi: the DJ gaadi with moving lights; see ghudchadhi and nikasi
- Varmala and pheras: soft music, a mic for the pandit, and a separate mic for an anchor if there is one
- Jagran and mata ki chowki: several mics for the bhajan group, a mixer and speakers that run all night
- Katha and satsang: clarity matters, not volume; a mic for the pandit or speaker and speakers spread through the pandal
- Ragni, mela, dangal: big sound for the stage and an announcement system for the ground
- School function and public meeting: mics for speeches, music for the children's programme, and announcements
- Shok sabha: just one mic and speakers at low volume, for tributes and bhajans
3. Where the speakers go
- Speech functions (katha, speeches, shok sabha): don't keep all the speakers on the stage; spread them front to back through the pandal at low volume, so people at the back hear clearly and those in front aren't deafened
- DJ and dancing: speakers by the dance floor, and away from the elders' seating, the dining area and the kitchen
- Don't point mics and speakers at each other, or you get the squeal of feedback
- Speakers on firm stands or level ground, out of children's reach; cover any cables across paths
- In rain or dew, keep the equipment under the roof
4. Volume and timing: the 10 pm rule
- By the rules, loudspeakers and DJs shouldn't play in the open from 10 pm to 6 am. On some special occasions the administration may allow later hours, but don't assume it
- Time the sangeet or baraat accordingly; after the DJ, only soft music or the mic late at night
- If there's a hospital, school or exam season nearby, keep the volume especially low
- Tell the neighbours beforehand how late the programme will run; in a village that's the biggest courtesy
5. Power
A DJ and a big sound system draw a lot of power, and a power cut in the middle ruins the mood. Add the sound load to the generator calculation along with the lights and coolers; see what size generator.
6. What to tell us at booking
- Which function and for how many hours, from when to when
- Only sound and mics, or a DJ too
- How many mics: the pandit, anchor, bhajan group, speeches
- How big the pandal is, so the right number of speakers go up
- Music preferences: Haryanvi, film songs, bhajans; mention any special family requests in advance

FAQ
Can I get a DJ and sound system for a wedding?
Yes. Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra supplies speakers, mics, mixers and announcement systems, with a DJ on demand. A DJ gaadi is also available for the ghudchadhi-nikasi.
What sound is right for a katha or jagran?
A katha needs clarity, not volume: a mic for the speaker and speakers spread through the pandal. A jagran needs several mics for the bhajan group, a mixer and sound that runs all night.
How late can the DJ play?
By the rules, loudspeakers and DJs shouldn't play in the open from 10 pm to 6 am. On some special occasions the administration may allow later hours. Plan the programme accordingly and tell the neighbours in advance.
Why do the speakers squeal?
When a mic faces a speaker or is too close to it. Keep the mic behind or beside the speakers and turn the volume down a little, and the squeal stops.
Do I need a generator for the sound?
If power cuts are likely or the DJ runs with lights, yes. Add the sound load to the lights and coolers to size the generator.
