Haldi, Mehndi and Sangeet at Home: One Setup, Three Looks, Haldi Stains, Light for Mehndi and the Sangeet Night

In the days before a wedding the home hosts the haldi, mehndi and sangeet (ladies sangeet, banna-banni songs), often on two or three days in a row. The smartest way to do it at home: one tent and one seating layout, with the decoration and lighting changed for each ritual. That saves setting up and taking down three times. Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra brings everything for all three in one go and changes the decoration day by day.
Three rituals, one setup
| Ritual | Time | Decoration | What matters most |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haldi | Morning or afternoon | Yellow-orange, marigold | Protecting against stains, shade from sun |
| Mehndi | Afternoon to evening | Green-pink, coloured drapes | Good light, comfortable seating |
| Sangeet | Night | Colourful LED, jhalar | Dance floor, stage, DJ |
The tent and seating stay in place from day one; after the haldi we change the drapes and flowers for the mehndi, and after the mehndi we add lights and the DJ for the sangeet.
1. Haldi without worrying about stains
Haldi and ubtan go everywhere, so:
- A patra, chowki or chair for the bride or groom, with marigold decoration behind
- Old durries or plain cloth on the floor in that area, so stains don't matter; keep good carpets away from it
- A bucket of water and a hand-washing spot nearby
- A shamiyana for shade if the morning sun is strong
2. Mehndi: light and a long sitting
Mehndi takes hours, and the women of the house get theirs done too:
- A comfortable seat with gadde and pillows for the bride, who has to sit still for hours
- Good light for the mehndi artists: a separate focus light on that corner as daylight fades, so fine designs are clear
- Durries and gadde all around for the other women, with the songs going on
- A fan or cooler nearby so the mehndi dries, but no strong draught straight at the bride
3. Sangeet night: dance floor, stage and DJ
At the sangeet the whole family dances, and in many homes relatives perform rehearsed songs:
- A dance floor in the middle with seating around it
- A small stage on one side for family performances
- A DJ (on demand) and a separate mic for announcing the songs
- Colourful LED, jhalar and separate lighting on the dance floor
- A generator so the music doesn't stop in a power cut
- Elders' chairs set a little away from the speakers
A thought for the neighbours: if the sangeet will run late, point the DJ speakers towards open ground rather than houses, and let the neighbours know in advance.
4. Food and snacks
- On the haldi and mehndi days, tea and snacks are often enough
- The sangeet night brings more guests, so dinner: our halwai cooks at your home, and we bring the counters and crockery
5. Groom's side or bride's side
These rituals happen in both homes. At the groom's home the ghudchadhi often follows the haldi (ghudchadhi guide); at the bride's home the big wedding preparations follow the mehndi. If the same pandal will be used for the wedding, tell us at booking; the structure stays and only the decoration changes.
Give us the dates of all three rituals together and it's settled in one booking. Delivery to your village costs nothing within 25 km, and we split the whole cost from haldi to sangeet within the amount you tell us: 99918 64283.
FAQ
Do we need separate tents for the haldi, mehndi and sangeet?
No. One tent and seating layout stays in place for all three days; we change the drapes, flowers and lighting before each ritual. That saves the cost of setting up and taking down three times.
How do we decorate for haldi without stains?
Lay old durries or plain cloth in the haldi area and move good carpets away. Keep the decoration to marigolds and yellow-orange drapes that don't mind a little haldi, and keep water nearby for washing hands.
What light and seating does mehndi need?
A seat with gadde and pillows for the bride, and a separate focus light on that corner so the artists can see fine designs in the evening. Durries and gadde all around for the other women.
Do you provide a DJ and dance floor for the sangeet?
Yes. A dance floor in the middle, a small stage for performances, a DJ (on demand), a mic for announcements, colourful LED lights and generator backup, all together. Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra has it ready before the sangeet night.
How can we avoid disturbing the neighbours on sangeet night?
Agree a time for the loud songs and switch the DJ to softer songs or banna-banni geet after that. Don't put the dance floor right against a neighbour's wall. Best of all, invite the neighbours to the sangeet too.
