If you think it might rain on your wedding day, don't panic. A wedding can go smoothly in the monsoon, in unseasonal rain or in winter drizzle, as long as you prepare well. The most important thing is a waterproof pandal. Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra brings waterproof tents and pandals and sets them up at your home, courtyard or street. Here, from the tent wala's side, is what we arrange in the rainy season and what you need to keep in mind.

What should you do first if rain is expected?

  1. Watch the weather forecast from 3–4 days before the wedding
  2. Tell us right away that you need a waterproof pandal, and we will put a waterproof tent or pandal in your booking
  3. Plan with us to move outdoor programmes (like open-air dining) inside the pandal, so we set up a pandal big enough for it
  4. Arrange covers for electrics, the generator and DJ equipment in advance; whatever equipment we bring, we set up in a covered spot

Why is a waterproof pandal necessary?

An ordinary cloth shamiyana gets soaked and starts dripping in rain, and can even sag under the weight. A waterproof tent or pandal keeps water from dripping through the roof, so guests, food, decoration and items stay dry, and the pheras, varmala and dinner go on without a break.

That is why, in the rainy season, we advise only a tent or pandal with a waterproof roof. To understand the difference between a shamiyana and a pandal, read: Shamiyana, pandal or waterproof tent.

Can water still come in from the ground?

The roof stops rain, but in heavy rain water flowing on the ground can come in. To prevent this:

Electrical safety in rain

Food, crockery and seating

Baraat and entry plan

If it rains, keep the baraat route short, and ideally have a covered path from the entry gate to the pandal. We set up this covered walkway too; just mention it at booking, so the baraat and guests reach the pandal from the gate without getting wet. Plan the bride's entry and photos inside the pandal; we do the stage and decoration inside so photos come out well even in the rain.

And after the function, you don't have to worry about packing up wet goods: we take everything back ourselves.
