Bhandara
How to Organise a Bhandara: Tent, Halwai and Pangat Checklist

A village bhandara is an act of seva and devotion, with hundreds of people taking prasad together. Bhandara planning means the tent, durries, a halwai for the bhandara, large utensils and pangat seating all have to be ready and right. Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra has arranged bhandaras, jagrans and religious events in villages since 1995. We bring the goods, set them up at the temple, chaupal or your home, and take everything back after the event. Here is the full checklist, from the tent house's point of view.
1. Space and tent
Wherever the bhandara is held, temple, chaupal, open ground or your courtyard, this is what we set up:
- A tent or shamiyana so the sangat can take prasad in the shade
- A waterproof tent in the rainy season, with kanat (side walls) if needed
- Long durries for pangat seating
WhatsApp us a photo of the space and the expected numbers, and we'll tell you how big a tent and how many durries you need.
2. Halwai and kitchen
Prasad and food are the heart of a bhandara. For this we send a halwai who cooks on the spot at your place:
- The bhatti, large kadhais and vessels come with us
- You choose the menu: puri-sabzi, halwa, kheer, or whatever your village's tradition is
- Tell us the numbers early so the halwai can plan quantities properly
3. Serving arrangement
- For pangat (seated on the ground) we lay the durries; for counters we set up chairs and tables, following your village's tradition
- Bone china crockery is available from us, or decide on leaf plates if you prefer
- Fix a spot for drinking water in advance
4. Lighting and generator
For an evening bhandara, or a night jagran alongside it, we put up lights in the pandal and along the approach and bring generator backup, so the kitchen and pangat don't stop in a power cut. In summer we can set up coolers too.
5. Book from one place
Taking the tent, durries, lights, generator and halwai from different places makes coordination hard. Book everything with us and one team handles it all, done to your satisfaction for the amount you tell us. Before booking, you can visit us in Khorra to see the goods. If there is a jagran as well, read our jagran guide.
