Balkra's pride: Subedar Randhir Singh, Vir Chakra
Subedar Randhir Singh (18 Grenadiers) of Balkra was a well-known wrestler who joined the Army in 1975. On the night of 2–3 June 1999 at Tololing, Drass, though badly wounded, he silenced two enemy posts, helping capture Point 4599. He died of his wounds on 3 June 1999 and was awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously. He studied at Balkra's government school.
