How to Have a Good Wedding on a Small Budget: 10 Tent & Decoration Tips

Most of a wedding's cost goes on the tent, decoration and food. So how do you plan a low budget wedding? The good news is that with a little planning that cost can come down a lot, without losing any of the celebration. Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra has been setting up weddings at home for budget-conscious village families since 1995. Every day we see where money is saved and where it is wasted. Here are the 10 tips that help most, from the tent house's side.
1. Hold the wedding at home or in the village
Use your own home, street or village chaupal. There is no venue rent and you take only the items you need. We bring the tent, kanat, chairs, lights and decoration to your home, set them up there and take everything back after the function. The idea is simple: a vatika-style arrangement, at your own home or village, for the amount you tell us. See: home and village weddings.
2. Take everything from one place
Hiring the tent, lights, decoration, generator and halwai separately means each adds their own transport and margin. With us all of it comes from one place, along with crockery, bedding and a DJ on demand. Tell us your budget and we do the whole job to your satisfaction for that amount, with one person responsible.
3. Give an accurate guest count
The tent and chair count are based on guests. Overestimating just adds cost. WhatsApp us the real count and a photo of the space, and we suggest only as much tent and pandal as you actually need.
4. Decorate where the photos are
Instead of heavily decorating the whole pandal, focus on the stage and entry gate, where most photos are taken. This is what we often do: neat drapes and kanat in the rest of the pandal, and the decoration effort on the stage, gate and mandap. See designs on the wedding decoration page.
5. Consider artificial flowers
Fresh flowers are beautiful, but artificial flowers give more decoration for a smaller budget. We do both kinds of flower decoration. You can keep fresh flowers only on the mandap or varmala stage and use artificial ones elsewhere.
6. Use lighting for atmosphere
Colourful jhalar and LED lights make the whole house and street feel festive at low cost. We put up lights on the house, street and gate, and bring a generator so the celebration goes on in a power cut. See: light decoration and generator.
7. Ask about transport charges
Some tent houses charge separately for delivery and pickup. At Bharat Tent & Light House it's free: we bring the goods to villages within about 25 km of Khorra, set them up and take them back afterwards.
8. Fix the date early
Last-minute bookings on saava dates are harder and costlier. Tell us as soon as your date is fixed, so the items and halwai you want are kept for you.
9. Get the rate list on WhatsApp
Share your date, guest count and items with us to get a full rate list, so there are no hidden costs. WhatsApp 99918 64283. Add the food to the same list: our halwai cooks at your home and you choose the menu.
10. See the items first
See the items and designs before booking, so there are no surprises later. You can visit us in Khorra to see the decoration goods and the pandal and stage designs, and understand what fits your budget.
FAQ
How much does a wedding tent cost?
There is no single fixed rate, because the cost comes from: tent size (set by guests), the number of chairs and tables, stage and gate decoration, lighting and how many days. Bringing, setting up and taking back is included. WhatsApp your date, place and guest count to Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra on 99918 64283. Tell us your budget and we'll agree up front what fits within it.
How do I find an affordable tent house?
Get full quotes from two or three tent houses for the same list (guests, tent size, chairs, decoration, lights, days), and check whether transport, setup, removal and labour are included or added later. Go and see that the items are clean and in good shape. At Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra, transport and setup are included in the rate, and you can come to Khorra to see the items.
Can decoration look good on a small budget?
Yes. Decorate where everyone looks and photographs: the stage, entry gate and lights. Use artificial instead of fresh flowers, and add colour with drapes and jhalar lights. Tell Bharat Tent & Light House, Khorra your budget and we agree the decoration design and items within it up front.
